In our fifth IPQ Debate we will focus on Germany’s future.
The outcome of the German parliamentary elections on February 23 will be highly consequential for Germany both in terms of finding a pathway forward domestically, after suffering two years of recession in a row, but also in terms of its foreign policy. Whether it comes to taking up leadership roles within the EU or NATO, supporting Ukraine, or forging close links with France and Poland, the outgoing Scholz government is leaving a decidedly mixed record. Will Germany’s next government be able to improve on it?
Germany’s new government will have to deal with the challenges posed by the new administration in Washington. To read more about how the second Trump presidency has unbalanced the status quo in international relations check out the IPQ Winter 2025 issue.
