China’s industrial overcapacity and rising trade surplus are reshaping global markets with significant implications for the Global South. As trade tensions grow, it becomes increasingly pressing for EU policymakers to respond in a way that balances economic resilience with the management of competition and cooperation. In this session, we will focus on China’s overcapacity and its rising manufacturing trade surplus with the Global South, trends in trade defense measures adopted by Global South countries, and policy options for the EU in response to these dynamics.
