The 2022 Midterm Elections Readout

Thursday, November 10, 2022, 3:30–4:30 p.m. CET

Despite early predictions of Democrats fending off a red wave due to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, inflation and economic uncertainty have pushed the needle in the Republicans’ favor. Still, races remain tight, and this year’s vote will probably yield some surprises on election day. To analyze the results of the midterms, former Republican Congressman Charles Boustany and former Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp will discuss their key takeaways and how the incoming Congress may affect the transatlantic relationship.

Welcome:

Ambassador Rolf Nikel, Vice President, DGAP

Speakers:

Charles Boustany, Former Congressman (Republican-Louisiana, 2005–2017) - online

Heidi Heitkamp, Former Senator (Democrat-North Dakota, 2013–2019); Board Member, GMF - online

Comments:

Dominik Tolksdorf, Research Fellow USA/Transatlantic Relations, International Order and Democracy Program, DGAP

Moderator:

Sudha David-Wilp, Senior Transatlantic Fellow and Berlin Office Director, GMF
