An analyst of global and Eurasian geopolitics and geo-economics, Jacopo Maria Pepe gives lectures in the US, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia and contributes regularly to publications, including the Aspen Institute’s online magazine. His latest book, Beyond Energy: Trade and Transport in a Reconnecting Eurasia, was published by Springer Verlag in January 2018.
Pepe worked as a research fellow at the Berlin Centre for Caspian Region Studies from 2010 to 2015 and in the Russia/CIS service design and strategy departments of the German state railway company DB Schenker-Rail from 2012 to 2013. He has advised the Italian Foreign Ministry on issues related to Turkey, the Middle East, and Eurasia and spent five months as senior visiting research fellow at Johns Hopkins SAIS’ Edwin Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies in Washington, DC. He has received scholarships from the DAAD and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
Pepe holds a master’s degree in international relations/international political economy from the Freie Universität Berlin, Universität Potsdam, and Humboldt Universität as well as a PhD in international relations from the Freie Universität Berlin.
