A spontaneous assessment might conclude that the Obama and Trump presidencies could have hardly been more different. This new edition of the German anthology on transatlantic perspectives for the Obama era published by the Kölner Forum für Internationale Beziehungen und Sicherheitspolitik (KFIBS) in 2012 aims to examine this assessment in a scholarly and critical manner. It does so by means of a first-of-its-kind comparative study that addresses US foreign and security policy under the premise of “continuity and change.” Changes in US foreign policy orientation have not insignificant effects on the transatlantic relationship, which is why the new KFIBS volume traces corresponding developments and makes follow-up assessments.
