Crossing Borders or Introvert Union?

The Euro Crisis and the EU’s Relations with its Southern Neighbours

Since the Arab Spring uprisings (if not earlier), EU Mediterranean policy has not lived up to expectations. Almut Möller has thus called for a strategic realignment. The upheavals in North Africa and the Middle East should be seen in the context of a crisis that the EU itself is involved in. A Europe of “different speeds,” which has developed more sharply throughout the debt crisis, could offer neighbors more opportunities to work with the Union in the future.
