Is your organisation navigating the complexities of the use of AI in the daily work of researchers and operational staff? If you are among those helping your organisation decide how to move forward, this workshop is for you.

The Think Tank Lab – a joint project by DGAP and MERICS – and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) cordially invite you to a series of community workshops aimed at developing a common code of conduct for the use of AI in think tank work.

In 2026, we will hold two workshops. In a first step, we will compare existing codes of conduct (CoCs) in different organisations and develop a commonly applicable structure for the German think tank sector aligned with the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. In a second step, we will explore how to implement AI-specific CoCs and standards across teams and organisations and what is needed for teams to comply with their organisation’s AI policy.

Step 1: Developing a Shared Code of Conduct

Date: 7 July 2026
Location: German Institute for International and Security Affairs, Ludwigkirchplatz 3–4, 10719 Berlin
Time: 09:00–13:00

Please register for the event using this link by 30 June 2026: Registration

The second workshop on implementing AI standards in organisations will take place after the summer break.

Both formats will be facilitated by Julian-G. Mehler, partner and consultant at Denkmodell. He leads the AI Hub at Denkmodell and has over ten years of experience in guiding organisations and their leaders through transformation and change processes.

We look forward to welcoming you and to developing a shared understanding of how think tanks should use AI in their work.
