The German Council on Foreign Relations’ Young DGAP cordially invites you to this online-event:
The International Connections of Hamas
Wednesday, November 22, 2023, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (CET)
via Zoom
The terror attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians on October 7 marks a historic cut: it was the largest one-day loss of Jewish lives since the Shoah. The defense of Israel and the military operation against Hamas in Gaza is causing thousands of civilian deaths. The conflict has been accompanied by an increase in populist debates and the spread of misinformation.
With this online-discussion, our objective is to gain a deeper understanding of how Hamas works and what they want, analyzing their financial network and reconstruct how they came in a position that enabled them to orchestrate such a large-scale terror attack.
Speakers:
Matthew Levitt, Director of the Jeanette and Eli Reinhard Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy
Dr. Hans-Jakob Schindler, Senior Director at the Counter Extremism Project (CEP)
Sina-Maria Schweikle, Journalist at Süddeutsche Zeitung
Chair:
Pascal Bernhard, Young DGAP
Mattis Körber, Young DGAP
