With more than 4.3 billion internet users worldwide, internet access is becoming ubiquitous, elevating illicit online trade to new and dangerous dimensions. According to the latest EU Serious and Organized Crime Threat Assessment (SOCTA), online trade in illegal and counterfeit goods is one of the fastest-growing illicit activities of organized crime. The so-called “dark commerce” undermines our security, be it in terms of arms trafficking, undercutting environmental protection, or facilitating financial corruption. The event will explore enhanced methods of fighting illicit internet trade, providing technological solutions, and closer cooperation between the public and private sector.
