The European Central Bank (ECB) is facing multiple challenges ahead of its leadership change next year. Stubbornly, inflation spiked by supply-chain shocks and fossil fuel prices persists. After several crises, finance ministers pursue painful consolidation while struggling to finance greater defense expenditures and future-oriented investment. Far-right challengers continue to rise in the polls ahead of the EU’s “super election year” 2027. And yet: fragile growth seems to be returning to the Eurozone and, in a hostile geoeconomic setting, the euro may play an even stronger international role.

In this demanding context, DGAP is delighted to host Klaas Knot, official candidate for the ECB presidency and former president of the Dutch Central Bank, for an exclusive background discussion with a select group of experts and stakeholders. We will hear Knot’s perspective and vision for the ECB and examine which priorities should be pursued to successfully navigate today’s challenges.
