Since Russia’s invasion, the Euro-Atlantic community has unleashed a taboo-smashing wave of foreign policy changes that focus on fortifying unity to support Ukraine, cost Russia, and increase NATO preparedness. Amid the largest hot war on the European continent since 1945, Europe, the United States, and like-minded countries are being forced to rethink Europe’s entire security, economic, technological, and energy architecture in a matter of months, if not weeks.

This online conversation will examine how the war is reshaping the global order and the form that a durable Euro-Atlantic security, economic, and political architecture could take in its aftermath. How does this moment compare to other historical inflection points at which the global order was fundamentally transformed? What does the war mean for the future of NATO’s military posture, NATO itself, and EU enlargement, as well as for the prospects of an emerging strategic framework in which hostility between democratic and authoritarian states is becoming a central element in foreign policy? How should Euro-Atlantic leaders shift from crisis response to building a durable security, economic, and technology order when they convene at the G7 Summit in Schloss Elmau from June 26 to 28 and the Madrid NATO Summit from June 29 to 30? How are Russia’s relationships shifting – not only the one it has with China but also those with the Global South where states like India, Brazil, and South Africa are increasingly asserting their agency? What will the war’s long-term impacts be as the geopolitical center of gravity continues to shift to the Indo-Pacific? We look forward to discussing these issues and more with Ambassador Zoellick and our members.
