DGAP’s Research Institute regularly brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in foreign affairs. On October 30, we will assess the current military situation in Ukraine and discuss the prospects for a potential ceasefire. For the first time since Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January, the United States have imposed direct sanctions on Russia. This decision followed a call by the US President for a frontline freeze, a move supported by Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and EU leaders. As a result, pressure on the Kremlin is intensifying. We will explore the implications of these recent developments for the course of the war and discuss the steps Europe needs to take now to strengthen Kyiv‘s negotiating position.
