DGAP’s Research Institute regularly brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in foreign affairs. This Thursday, we will explore expectations and challenges ahead of the NATO Summit on July 7 and 8 in Ankara. The Alliance gathers at a moment of deep uncertainty. European states face mounting pressure to rearm their militaries and reshape their security architecture, while Washington's commitment to the transatlantic partnership appears increasingly conditional and transactional. Continued support for Ukraine remains a central point of contention. Meanwhile Turkey, this year's host, seeks to assert its own strategic weight within the Alliance. Together, these dynamics raise pressing questions about NATO's cohesion and its capacity to adapt to a rapidly shifting security landscape.
