Tuesday, September 8, 2020, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

Moderator:

Christian Gerl

What is science diplomacy? What is power in international relations? And where do both meet? These were just some of the questions discussed at the Warsaw Science Diplomacy School 2020 (WSDS), which was organized by the EU-funded research project “InsSciDE – Inventing a shared Science Diplomacy for Europe” in cooperation with the European Academy of Diplomacy in Vienna. For more information on the WSDS and the 28 participants it brought together from 26 countries on six continents, please visit https://insscide.diplomats.pl/event/summer-school-2020/.

In this web talk, Rasmus will examine the concepts of science diplomacy and power in international relations theory. He will then analyze how theory transfers into practice, thereby shedding light on how science diplomacy works on the European Union level as well as with partners in Germany. In conclusion, after both Rasmus and Christian present their takeaways from the WSDS, participants will brainstorm about the future of science diplomacy in Europe.

The event will be held in English via Zoom. Questions can be raised at any time during and after the talk. Please register here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUpdeqhrT8tGtE3X5u2gzEN4GRTjWAgQLn-
