The European Council on March 24 & 25 is called upon to adopt the final version of the Strategic Compass which has been under discussion since 2019. With this document, the European Union and its member states aim to strengthen their common strategic culture and develop the idea of strategic sovereignty in their dealings with the fundamental challenges of the global order. It is based on the EU Global Strategy of 2016 and tries to bring together the different instruments of the Common Security and Defense Policy in an integrated approach.
With our very distinguished guests we would like to discuss, among other topics, the contribution of the Strategic Compass to Euro-Atlantic security. How does the Strategic Compass relate to NATO’s upcoming strategic concept? Should the European Union concentrate on security on the continent and its adjacent areas or think more globally in this respect?
