The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) cordially invites you to DGAP’s Morning Briefing:

Greenland, Tariffs, and the Future of Transatlantic Relations

Thursday, January 22, 2026, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. (CET)  via Zoom

Speakers:
Gabriella Gricius, Senior Fellow, The Arctic Institute
Claudia Schmucker, Head of the Center for Geoeconomics, Geopolitics, and Technology, DGAP
Rachel Tausendfreund, Senior Research Fellow, USA and Transatlantic Relations, DGAP

Chair: Jan Stöckmann, Head of Karl Kaiser Forum, DGAP

DGAP’s Research Institute regularly brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in foreign affairs. On January 22, we will examine the escalating transatlantic dispute on Greenland, tariffs, and the rules-based international order. Having expressed a firm interest in acquiring Greenland “for the purpose of National Security,” US President Trump doubled down on his plan by threatening to impose new tariffs on those countries, including Germany, that sent troops to Greenland to affirm its sovereignty. He is expected to deliver a major address in Davos this week. Together with our experts, we will discuss the geopolitical and geoeconomic implications of Trump’s foreign policy course.

Please register here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the DGAP Morning Briefing via Zoom. Participants will be able to ask questions via Zoom’s question and answer function during the discussion. You will find information related to data processing at https://dgap.org/en/zoom. Please note that this event will be recorded.
