The workshop was organized by the Alfred von Oppenheim Center for European Policy Studies in conjunction with the European Policy Centre (EPC) on behalf of the Irish presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament, and the European External Action Service (EEAS). It took place under the auspices of the German Bundestag’s subcommittee on “civil crisis prevention and networked security.” Additional peace mediation workshops are scheduled to take place later this year in Paris, Sofia, and Brussels. The Alfred von Oppenheim Center had already addressed the initiative for a European Institute of Peace in January 2013 as part of its “Brussels Briefing” series, thereby drawing the attention of the German Bundestag to the topic.
