Keynote Address by

H.E. Sven Mikser
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia

Estonia takes up the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1, 2017. The key topics of its presidency will be supporting the Energy Union, encouraging closer cooperation with the EU’s eastern neighbors, and more generally, supporting digital markets and information society. The security situation with Russia and relations with the Eastern Partnership countries are particularly important to Estonia’s foreign policy. The government in Tallinn strongly supports sanctions against Russia within the context of the Ukraine conflict. It is also a critic of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which it sees as challenging EU energy security. Foreign Minister Sven Mikser will address these topics, among others, at this high-level event.

Discussant and Chair:

Dr. Stefan Meister
Head of the Robert Bosch Center for Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia, DGAP

The keynote address and discussion will be held in English.
