DGAP’s Research Institute regularly brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in foreign affairs. On March 3, following Saturday’s large-scale attack by the United States and Israel against Iran, we will examine the developing security situation and its broader international implications. We will assess the stability of the regime in Tehran after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other leading figures were killed. As US attacks continue, Iran has retaliated with strikes against Israel as well as American military bases in several Gulf countries. With airspace and waterways already widely affected, there are concerns that security in the region might further deteriorate. Meanwhile, German and European reactions have been hesitant as Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to travel to Washington on Tuesday.
