Every Thursday morning, DGAP’s Research Institute brings together experts and high-level guests to discuss the latest developments in foreign affairs. This week, we will take stock of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 held on June 11 and 12 in Berlin. Even as the military situation in the country remains tense, URC2024 will focus on the key dimensions of rebuilding Ukraine and thus be closely watched – not least with regard to actual commitments being made by international partners. Further, at a time when Ukrainian forces have started to use their new leeway to use long-range weapons supplied by the West to hit back at Russian attackers beyond the border, we will look ahead to the Ukraine Peace Summit. This meeting will take place in Switzerland on June 15 and 16 with representatives from more than 90 states and organizations. Neither Russia nor China will attend. Given China’s absence, we will also assess the role of Beijing, which is increasingly coming under scrutiny.
