Pluralistic democracy in the United States and Israel do not necessarily work in favour of a peaceful resolution to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Can democracy be an obstacle to peace?

The civil war in Syria goes on unabated. Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad may be very powerful but he lacks the means to implement drastic political reforms in Syria, at least if he does not want to seriously endanger his own position and that of his regime.

The lecture will be held in English and the discussion in German. It will be moderated by Paul von Maltzahn.
