In a multipolar world, disputes and disagreements are hard to avoid. While globalization and digitization are bringing the international community, states, and businesses closer together, polarization is increasing. These simultaneous developments can cause conflicts that severely impact all parties involved. In this context, the development of tools and mechanisms that bring diverging interests together peacefully – rather than isolating interest groups – is of greater relevance than ever.

At this event, we will discuss both the opportunities that conflicts may bring and the instruments required to resolve them. We aim to highlight a variety of perspectives and exchange views on mediation and conflict resolution with representatives from diplomacy, business, and NGOs.

Please join us in discussing the prospects for conflicts in a multipolar world with:

Heike Thiele, Commissioner for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Stabilization of the German Federal Foreign Office

Ken Feinberg, American attorney specializing in mediation and alternative dispute resolution; former Special Master of the US government’s September 11th Victim Compensation Fund

Andrew Gilmour, Executive Director of the Berghof Foundation

Moderator: Lilia Vogelsang, Member of Young DGAP
