Rainer Stinner studied business administration at Ludwig Maximilian Universität in Munich, where he earned the degrees of Dipl. Kfm. and Dr. rer.pol. He has been active as a management consultant since 1976, building up an international consulting company with an emphasis on strategic and organizational consulting. Much of his work has taken place in the international field.
A member of the FDP political party for forty years, Stinner has served the Free Democratic Party in many different capacities, including as chair of the party’s Munich chapter and as member of the FDP’s federal board.
He was a member of the German Bundestag from 2002 to 2013, where he was especially active in foreign and security policy. From 2009 to 2013 he served as his party’s spokesperson on foreign policy and coordinator for international policies.
Rainer Stinner led the DGAP’s study group on “globalization and foreign trade” between 2009 and 2013. During the same period he was a member of the Königswinter Conference of the Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft and served on the board of directors at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). He heads the FDP’s Transatlantic Forum.
