Putin Turns Annual Address to the Parliament into Campaigning Event

On March 1, 2018, Russian president Vladimir Putin held his annual speech in the Federal Assembly in Moscow. With the presidential elections less than three weeks ahead, the speech was a campaigning event rather than a classical address to the parliament. Besides social and economic aspects Putin focused on his foreign policy. It encapsulates “the essence of his presidency,” explains DGAP’s Russia expert Sarah Pagung in DW news.
