At our fourth #teamDiversity meeting, Grant Dalton from the Institute for Government (IfG), a nonpartisan think tank based in London, will present his recently published report Diversity and Inclusion in the Think Tank Sector. It looks at socioeconomic and ethnic diversity in think tanks and the civil service in the UK and provides recommendations on how to improve it. The report concludes that, in the UK, perceptions of that sector and some of its widely employed policies prevent it from recruiting diversely. Following Grant’s brief presentation, we will discuss possibilities for applying the report’s findings to think tanks outside the UK.
Speaker: Grant Dalton
Researcher at the Institute for Government (IfG)
Moderator: Claudia Wessling Director Communications and Publications at the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS)

About #teamDiversity: Based on the work of the Think Tank Lab’s Diversity Challenge, we launched a community of practice for everyone working on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in think tanks and policy research organizations. In bimonthly meetings, we exchange good practices and collaborate on joint initiatives in a friendly and informal environment. #teamDiversity is hosted by the Think Tank Lab and Stiftung Neue Verantwortung. The Think Tank Lab is a joint initiative by the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS). It is kindly supported by Stiftung Mercator and Robert Bosch Stiftung.
