The selection of the Goerdeler fellows is organized as a two-step process consisting of a pre-selection based on the written applications and a two-day selection seminar with group discussions and interviews with the 40 short-listed candidates.

After welcome remarks by Yvonne Jung, representative of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, and Dr. Daniela Schwarzer, Director of the German Council on Foreign Relations, the candidates addressed their questions to the Kolleg’s Director Prof. Günter Verheugen during a panel discussion on Good Governance as the guiding principle of a modern society. The discussion was moderated by alumni of the program and members of the selection committee Rozalina Laskova and Irina Ghulinyan-Gerz.

In small groups, the candidates discussed the challenges and possible solutions regarding the prevention of corruption and civic participation in their home countries. The results of the group work were presented in plenary session.

On day two of the selection seminar, the candidates were interviewed regarding their motivation for participation in the Kolleg and presented their ideas for good governance projects.

The Goerdeler Kolleg is a one-year professional development program of the Robert Bosch Stiftung conducted in cooperation with the German Council on Foreign Relations. It provides advanced training for executives and young leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine in the field of good governance and public innovation. In three international seminars, participants strengthen their knowledge and skills in good governance, cross-sectoral cooperation, and innovation management. They receive exclusive insights into political, business, and social organizations and can build a valuable network among decision-makers and experts. In various training modules, they advance their project management as well as leadership and innovation skills. With the support of experienced project managers, each participant implements a good governance project in their home organization, strengthening transparency, participation, and due process in their societies. Following the completion of the program, the international networks of program partners continue to provide a diverse offering to support the alumni’s social commitment. Prof. Günter Verheugen, former vice president of the European Commission, accompanies the participants as director of the Goerdeler Kolleg.
