Seit 2017 wirbt Frankreichs Präsident Emmanuel Macron für die Stärkung der EU-Verteidigungspolitik. Seit 2022 gibt ihm der russische Krieg gegen die Ukraine recht. Doch der französische Führungsanspruch in Europa kollidiert mit globalen Ambitionen vergangener Zeiten. „Macht der Gleichgewichte“ im Indo-Pazifik, Ordnungsmacht in Afrika und Rahmennation der NATO-Ostflanke – das scheint zu viel für eine europäische Mittelmacht. Macron muss sich entscheiden und Deutschland kann als engster Verbündeter helfen. So ließe sich die Zeitenwende in beiden Ländern ergänzen und Europa sicherer machen.
