Lessons Learned for a Common Future?
Joint event by the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.
In his book “Game Over: The Inside Story of the Greek Crisis” (May 2016), George Papaconstantinou shares his experience of the Greek debt crisis from his perspective as the country’s former finance minister. Based on these findings, the discussants will debate the evolution and the current state of the Greek debt crisis and its impact on the design of the eurozone: what are the lessons learned? To what extent have Greece and its European partners arrived at a shared analysis of the root causes, and has this contributed to finding common solutions? Has the eurozone missed out on an opportunity to start to fix the structural flaws of the common currency – is it now better prepared for the next crisis? Are we finally approaching a sustainable solution? How has the political and economic climate in Greece developed since the last parliamentary elections?
